Physician groups urge Congress to strengthen NSA enforcement

Radiology Business reports that radiology, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine societies are urging Congress to strengthen enforcement of the No Surprises Act and preserve independent dispute resolution.

The September 23 report describes a joint appeal from ACR, ASA, and ACEP. According to the groups’ analysis of CMS data, insurers did not participate in roughly one-quarter of disputes, and about 8% of line-item offers were $1 or less. The societies argue that low initial offers and repeated defaults distort the process. They ask lawmakers to scrutinize insurer nonparticipation and enforce existing obligations.
